Measuring the impact of science communication activities with children

August 23, 2022 By Sharon Unsworth

Communicating with children about language science is one thing, but how do you know whether what you said or did actually had any (lasting) effect on them? This is something we’ve been working hard on lately at Kletskoppen. Last year, my colleague Pim Franssen and I followed an amazing course organised by SciComNL together with IMPACTLAB and Wissenschaft im Dialog on exactly this topic: How to Evaluate the Impact of Science Communication. We learned a lot and over the past year we’ve been trying to put what we’ve learned into practice. It hasn’t always been easy and we’ve made plenty of mistakes, something which has been both frustrating and instructive. This Friday we’re giving a short presentation about what we’ve done and what we’ve learned at this mini-symposium. Looking forward to hearing people’s feedback and hearing about how they’ve been measuring impact.
